We generally always stock fire extinguishers in various different styles and conditions. This was one was made by Knight & Thomas of Boston Mass. This is the Underwriters Fire Extinguisher number 5 We have tried to date this but the only information available was that the patent was 9th April 1895 and the # & was in production into the 1920’s.
This firm has been making fire extinguishers since January, 1895. These extinguishers are made of extra heavy seamless copper, especially for the hard service of fire departments, and contain a number of patented features which add greatly to their efficiency. In addition to their well-known and widely distributed 2 1/2-gallon “Underwriters” extinguishers for general use, of which there are three different kinds, two of which have non-sticking wheel covers. They make a number of other styles.
In good vintage condition for it’s age. The side hose has suffered from perishing but can easily be replaced if desired. The seam at the back of the extinguisher has opened up to about halfway.
Please remember when buying vintage items they will have signs of use – but that is also what makes them so unique. We do our best to photograph and explain the condition of the item as best we can. If you have any questions about a particular item please contact us.
