Description
Tidewater Oil Company from 1887 to 1936 was a major petroleum refining company during that period. Tidewater was sold many times during its existence. Brands included Tydol, Flying A, and Veedol.
Starting in 1949, J. Paul Getty negotiated a series of lucrative oil leases with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Gordon Getty and his family inherited a 40% interest in the company when J. Paul Getty died in 1976. At one point, Getty Oil owned a majority stake of Tidex Lubricants, before it was sold to the American Broadcasting Company in 1984.
The can is in as found condition. Bought from a gas can collector together with 14 others. The screw cap is on and the carrying handle is present..
