Description

Made to collect the sap from a maple tree.  There is a hole near the rim to hang it from the tree and a tap into the tree.  Above is usually a a metal roof to keep out weather etc. Forty gallons of sugar maple sap will produce one gallon of syrup. 70 percent of the world’s maple syrup is made in Quebec.  The sap buckets are put out  in the winter, when the night temperature falls below freezing and rises above during the day. They are collected when full  and taken to the Sugar House.  Inside there the sap is heated and the water evaporates. Once your water-and-sugar mix nears 67 percent sugar and 33 percent water, the temperature will reach 219 F. to form the maple syrup.  Many individual families still do this in Vermont.  While Vermont is by far the highest producing maple syrup state in the United States, 70 percent of the world’s maple syrup is made in Québec.

Being sold are the tapered galvanised maple syrup sap buckets only, no tap or roof.  If you intend to use as a plant pot, and not a plant pot holder, you will need drainage holes in the bottom.
