Classic vintage child’s tubular steel garden chair with the sculpted back so popular in the 1940’s. Appears to be the original colour. Made by the Junior Toy Company from 1939 to the late 1950’s.
John Gordon Rideout was an industrial designer born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and is best known for designing bicycles, tricycles (see also product code 8286), scooters, and wagons. During the mid-1930s through early 1940s, he had various patents with the American National Company, Junior Toy Company , Calumet Manufacturing, and others. He worked under his own design company, so he does not appear to have been directly employed by any of the manufactures. 1938-1940 he had a number of metal chair patents for Calumet Manufacturing, who sold their chairs under the Junior Toy Company name.
