“The Chief Wardrobe” steamer trunk Circa 1930’S from Oshkosh with quality American craftsmanship and elegant styling. This beautiful trunk features all that you would expect from the Golden Age of Travel, think steam trains ocean liners, and Stately homes. The Oshkosh brand was available in major American stores like Macy’s and further around the world having stores on Regent Street in London and the Champ Elysees in Paris.
A wardrobe interior, the left compartment opens to reveal a large laundry bag, and a lower compartment for shoes. The right compartment has six drawers of varying sizes with original pulls. The top narrow drawers are divided sections for cosmetics and toiletries, while the large bottom drawer is for hats, and clothes having ribbons to hold in place. We have the key, and the outer lock is working well along with the inner left lock. The drawers have a top lock which should lock all the drawers at once, but it seems to be sticking, may need some attention. Otherwise Interior is in fair condition, no tears on the fabric, missing the ironing board and original hangers.
Exterior is in good over all condition, expected scuffs and marks from years of travel use. Still has its sturdy leather handle, and heavy-duty protective edging, all nail heads, and corner guards in place . The top of the Trunk bears a colourful and is monogrammed H.A.B in large red letters. Four bottom rollers for ease when moving.
