Large vintage original tin tile mounted onto a wooden frame for easy hanging. This has decorative scroll and pattern work and most of the cream paint has worn off giving it a unique, almost copper coloured look to it. There are some small holes and rust as shown in the photographs.
Original vintage tin ceiling tiles sometimes referred to as Brooklyn tiles. They were prevalent along the Eastern seaboard States of America. These are reclaimed tiles from old American buildings.
Originally used mainly on ceilings to decorate rooms but some public buildings had some wall tiles. Production began in the mid 1850’s. They became popular in the 1900’s not only for their decorative look but as a cost effective product to use as a fire retardant in wooden building constructions. Also looked like decorative plastering so nick named a poor man’s plasterwork. They are much quicker and easier to install saving time and money.
Please remember when buying vintage items, they will have signs of use but that is also what makes them so unique. We do our best to photograph and explain the condition of the item as best we can. If you have any questions about a particular item, please contact us. Please take the time to look at all pictures.
