Sorry, this item is sold

A 1880’s O’Hara Glass Company LTD of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania pickle/jam/marmalade jar with an unusual hand/fist holding bar knob/finial.

The jar has an etched fern/leaf design and the features a frosted fist holding a bar. It is multifaceted and has a cut flower or starburst design on the base. No chips or cracks have been noted. There is a tiny air bubble within the glass. Please see images.

The O’Hara Glass Company operated from 1875 until 1891. The Early American Pattern Glass Society identifies this jar as O’Hara’s No. 17 pickle jar. Victorian era jars such as these were often put inside a silver holder – a pickle castor – with a handle and a hook on the side from which hung a fork or a pair of tongs. Some will argue that the Victorians used these jars to hold marmalade or jam but those jars usually had a slot on the lid for a spoon. This jar has no such slot on its lid.
