Description
Founded by Henry Sherwin and Edward Williams in Cleveland in 1866. In the beginning, all ready-mixed house paints were oil-based. In 1941, Sherwin-Williams introduced Super Kem-Tone, the world’s first latex house paint. From then on, painting contractors had a choice between oil-based alkyds and waterbased latex coatings. Each had its advantages and disadvantages. Kem-Tone, the first emulsion-based, fast-drying paint for the do-it-yourself market was introduced in 1941 and met with remarkable success. Kem-Tone helped deal with the raw material shortage that the nation faced after the war. Soon thereafter, the company introduced Kem-Glo, a porcelain-like enamel paint.
