Bright buoys marking the locations of lobster traps have been an iconic piece of maritime culture dating to the late 1800s, when trapping became a common method of lobstering. To distinguish one lobsterman’s traps from others, it became tradition—and then law—to paint buoys a unique pattern and colour scheme. The colours would be registered with the coast guard and this ensured all pots were harvested by the right boat.
We have a selection of lobster marker buoys here at Tramps, so if you are in need of more or would like different colour combinations, please look at our other listings, or do not hesitate to contact us.
Please remember when buying vintage items, they will have signs of use but that is also what makes them so unique. We do our best to photograph and explain the condition of the item as best we can. If you have any questions about a particular item, please contact us. Please take the time to look at all pictures.
