This glove is a Wilson, made in the USA, Streamlined Finger Pat. No. 2231204 signed Paul Gillespie.
Paul Gillespie was a catcher for the 1942-45 Chicago Cubs. Though he had a short career due to war service and then injury in the ’45 Series, Gillespie has his own special place in baseball history as one of just 2 players to hit home runs in their first AND last career at bats. He was born 1920 and died aged 50.
This glove was in use during the ’40’s. The named gloves changed with fashionable speed so after his career ended they would have been discontinued. It is assumed to be about 75 years old. This glove has been cared for. There are no breaks to the stitching, or obvious damage.
