This is a original authentic 1932 leather Cairns leather fire helmet. Patent number 1889537. This firefighter would have been a part of the Holbrook Fire Department USA.
Made in the traditional Sam Houston, New Yorker design using leather panels to construct. The long curved rear is to keep hot embers and hot water from running down the back of your coat. Beautiful decoration, and crest in place.
Obvious signs of use, the leather has surface cracks in places, the crest is a little misshapen, the front panel has some scuffs and the Number 1 has some if the white colour missing. All signs of a used, worn fire helmet. Inside is nice and clean with the Cairns Makers label and Cairns own Sanitary Cushioned Lining.
