Original wooden lobster crates from Nova Scotia.
These wooden crates were used for transporting the lobster from the fishing boat whilst still alive. They allowed the lobster to breathe and stay damp before being deposited in water tanks.
The crates are of wooden slat construction. They have a lid to the top with rope ties and rope carrying handles to each end. Usually have the boat owners initials painted on each end. Nice weathered colour.
They make great coffee tables. Also used as display areas in fish restaurants. Have also been used in a stack to make a cocktail bar area.
