This beautiful croquet set came from the ‘Army & Navy Co-operative Society’ or a Army and Navy store as most will know as. In its original pine box, with applied paper labels inscribed ‘Army & Navy Co-operative Society, W10, 105 Victoria Street, London, S.W.’ It has all you need for a game of 4, black, yellow, red and blue player mallets, hoops for the lawn, the order of play coloured peg, 4 coloured balls, and there are also boundary line pegs for those taking the field of play seriously.
We know it pre dates 1934, as this is when the stores had the names simplified to the more familiar ‘Army and Navy’ stores. So this set is most definitely in used condition, it has seen many a good game on the green, as a result we are sadly missing the blue ball, and the 4 balls that are remaining are a little tired! See the pictures for details. We think this set would make a fantastic prop in any bar, restaurant or pub going for a sporting theme, or quintessentially English decor.
We have a great collection of sporting memorabilia here at Tramps, take a look at our sporting page, or get in touch, the collection of bats, balls, nets, rackets, boots, rods, shoes, clothes…. and sticks is ever changing, so we may just have what you are looking for.
