A lovely cobalt blue nautical themed serving platter or plate by Duralex Bormioli Rocco.
This plate is a long oval shape and has pictures of seahorses, a lighthouse and a sailboat on the front. The back has the Duralex Bormiolo Rocco name imprinted onto it. There are no chips or cracks noted. Please see images.
Bormioli Rocco is an Italian manufacturer of household goods now operating under the name Bormioli Luigi SpA. The company is one of the world’s leading suppliers of tableware and glassware. Founded in 1825 in Fidenza (Province of Parma, Italy), Bormioli Rocco produces glassware and plastic containers for home use, as well as containers for pharmaceutical use. In 1825, after the acquisition of the Royal Majolica and Glass Manufacturer, the Bormioli family transformed it into Bormioli Brothers Glassworks and, later on, into Bormioli Rocco and Son Glassworks. They began to produce food containers in 1911. During World War I producing glass to contain and transport medicines and food required a great effort on the part of the glassworks and they expanded. The factory was hit by heavy bombing in World War 2 but this led to more modernising of equipment with semi-automatic machines. Bormioli Rocco remained a major company in the region, employing more than 1,600 people, and had a worldwide sales network. It continues to produce glass products for the household sector, and industrial packaging for pharmaceutical, perfume, cosmetics and food use.
