Description
Beautiful Native American Indian Pom Pom Snowshoes circa. 1890-1920 made from Wood, Babiche/raw hide, Metal (nails)
This great set of native American Indian Pom Pom Snowshoes. The pom poms were placed on the edges of the snowshoes for both spiritual and hunting tactics. The om poms were often made from the fur of the animal hunted, apparently to try and mask the human scent. The colour would denote what tribe the wearer belonged to, red often is associated with Cree Indians.
In good antique condition, some of the hide lacing has come away from the frame in places, but this does not distract from the detailed, intricate work on these shoes, they may have been a gift to someone to show the makers skills.
Please remember when buying vintage items they will have signs of use but that is also what makes them so unique. We do our best to photograph and explain the condition of the item as best we can. If you have any questions about a particular item please contact us.
