Description

A 3 piece softball or baseball set that compromises of a bat, glove and softball. This is a smaller size and would suit a child or young adult.

The tan leather glove is for a right handed person and goes on the left hand (catch with left hand, throw with right hand). It’s made by Rawlings and has the Rawlings logo stamped on the back. It is a RBG158 9″, features the signature of Cal Ripken Jr. and has an Edge-U-Cated heel.  All the writing is in contrasting black lettering. It has a few small marks from being used.

The bat is solid plain varnished wood. The end is flat. It has a few scuff marks. This can be seen in the photographs.

The softball is white and bright yellow with red stitching. It has a lot of scuff marks from being previously used.

Rawlings was founded in 1887 and was among the brands creating gloves in the early stages of the game. It wasn’t until 1919 that they started to become a leader in baseball because of their innovative features to gloves. A St. Louis pitcher named Bill Doak went to Rawlings with an idea to give the glove webbing between the thumb and index finger, an extension of the fingers. This turned the baseball glove from a protective element to an added tool to become a better fielder.

Calvin Edwin Ripken Jr. is an American former baseball shortstop and third baseman who played 21 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Baltimore Orioles (1981–2001). One of his position’s most offensively productive players, Ripken compiled 3,184 hits, 431 home runs, and 1,695 runs batted in during his career, and he won two Gold Glove Awards for his defence. He was a 19-time All-Star and was twice named American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP). Ripken holds the record for consecutive games played, 2,632, surpassing Lou Gehrig’s streak of 2,130 that had stood for 56 years and that many deemed unbreakable. In 2007, he was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
