Vintage Cast Iron Turks head fluted muffin pan.
A fluted muffin pan for 12 gems or muffins. The compartments are generally shallower than most muffin tins on this type of pan. There is a hole either side so it can be stored hanging up if desired. Shows normal signs of wear and rust. Please see images.
The term gem likely comes from the cakes being small and decoratively-shaped, like “gems”. Another possibility is that the term came from a kitchen housewares company named Gem that sold baking tins which came to be generically referred to as “Gem pans”. Regardless of how the name came to be, a gem is a muffin.
