Description

A lovely print from the Oliver Warner Sailing Ships Book of the Clipper ship “Highflyer”. The book of prints dates back to 1958 and was published by Ariel Press in London. This single print has The Clipper Ship “Highflyer”, 1111 tons printed across the bottom.

It has a slight bit of yellowing along the edges, but no rips, tears or folds in the picture.

We have other prints from this series, so please take a look at our other listings or contact us for more information.

About the “Highflyer” – The ship was built at Blackwall in 1861. Nine years before, the Anglesey had been built and had proved to be very fast indeed. It is believed therefore, that the success of the latter ship probably influenced the Highflyer’s design for, although frigate built, she was given extra fine lines. She was put into the Far East Tea Trade, but her performances in speed were not sufficiently good to meet the intense demands of those competitive days. Her passages were averaging 130 days from Shanghai and she was therefore eventually withdrawn.

Please remember when buying vintage items, they will have signs of use but that is also what makes them so unique. We do our best to photograph and explain the condition of the item as best we can.
