A vintage set of 6 ruby thumbprint glasses produced by Indiana Glass.
These King’s Crown pattern, (also known as Thumbprint) glasses have a ruby red coloured top and a clear glass bowl and stem. The ruby red takes on a gorgeous iridescent gold glow in some lights. These glasses feature the traditional ovals and zigzag markings of the King’s Crown pattern.
No chips or cracks have been seen. Please see images.
The glassware’s pattern, King’s Crown, originally was named Excelsior when it was introduced by the Adams Glass Co. during the late 1800s. It became a very popular pattern and was copied by other glass manufacturers. Indiana Glass introduced their King’s Crown in the late 1950’s. Initially produced in clear crystal glass, the design features a plain top over a ring of deep thumbprints decorated above and below with a raised zig-zag border. When the pattern became popular, deep ruby-coloured staining was applied to the top portion of each piece. Eventually known as Ruby Thumbprint, the glassware later was called King’s Crown.
