Description

Single champagne bottle size wooden box with a sliding lid. This would have been used to hold 1 bottle of champagne for transporting around the world. They are designed to fit one bottle, with a little room left over for packing material.

Engraved across the lid is ‘Ruben Azur’ and across the front is ‘Champagne, Charles de Cazanove, Epernay, France’.

Charles de Cazanove is a Champagne producer based in Reims in the region of Champagne. The house was founded in Avize in 1811 by Charles Gabriel de Cazanove, and was further developed by his botanist son Charles Nicolas de Cazanove who was a leader in the efforts to fight phylloxera (a microscopic louse or aphid, that lives on and eats roots of grapes).
